A court in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore has handed 16 civilians to the military for trial over their suspected involvement in violent protests this month following the arrest of former prime minister Imrān K̲h̲ān.

Such punishments have little practical effect as Chinese courts do not have jurisdiction in Taiwan, whose government rejects Běijīng’s sovereignty claims.
